The MOT is a safety and emissions test, not a full mechanical inspection. The tester works through brakes, tyres and wheels, lights and signalling, steering and suspension, seatbelts and seats, bodywork and structure, exhaust and emissions, and the windscreen, wipers and washers.

Where we differ from a conveyor-belt operation is what happens next. You get:

• A plain-English explanation of anything that failed, and why it failed — not a printout and a shrug.
• An itemised quote before any work starts. No work happens without you agreeing to it first.
• A proper walk-through of the advisories — items that passed this year but are wearing. That gives you twelve months to plan and budget rather than being ambushed next time.
• An honest steer on what can wait. If an advisory has plenty of life left in it, we will say so.

Time your test properly

You can have the car tested up to one month minus a day before the current certificate runs out and keep your existing renewal date. Book any earlier than that and you simply lose the remaining days you have already paid for.
