Brakes, Tyres & Wheel Alignment
The three things keeping your car on the road. Brake repairs from £54, tyres to suit every budget, and 4-wheel alignment from £36.
Brake repairs from £54
Your brakes are the most critical safety system on the vehicle, and the one most likely to be quietly worn out. We carry out a full brake inspection and fit pads, discs, callipers and brake fluid on all makes and models from £54 plus parts.
Signs it is time to get your brakes looked at:
- Squealing or grinding — many pads have a wear indicator designed to squeal. Grinding usually means the pads are gone and you are damaging the discs
- Longer stopping distances or a pedal that feels soft or spongy
- Vibration through the pedal when braking, often warped discs
- The car pulling to one side under braking
- Brake warning light on the dashboard
We always use quality components, and we will show you what is worn and advise you before carrying out any work.
Tyres — budget to premium, supplied and fitted
We stock a comprehensive range of budget, mid-range and premium tyres to suit all vehicles and budgets, with fitting, balancing and pressure checks across the full range. Contact us with your tyre size for a price — we are highly competitive and can usually beat main dealer pricing.
Check your tread
The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around its entire circumference. Below that you risk a £2,500 fine and three penalty points per tyre, plus an MOT failure.
A quick check: put a 20p coin into the main tread grooves. If you can see the outer band of the coin, your tread may be close to the limit and the tyre needs checking properly. Most safety experts recommend replacing at 3mm rather than waiting for 1.6mm, as wet braking performance falls away sharply below that.
4-wheel alignment from £36
Hitting a pothole or a kerb — hard to avoid on local roads — knocks your wheels out of alignment. The result is tyres that wear unevenly and wear out early, a steering wheel that sits off-centre, and a car that pulls to one side.
Our 4-wheel alignment check and adjustment starts at £36 and pays for itself quickly in tyre life alone. Worth doing whenever you fit new tyres, after any suspension work, or if you have had a solid encounter with a pothole.
Signs your alignment is out:
- Steering wheel off-centre when driving straight
- Car drifting or pulling to one side
- Uneven tyre wear, particularly on the inner or outer edge
- Steering feeling vague or unsettled
Alignment issues frequently show up as advisories at MOT time, so it is worth sorting before the test rather than after.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do new brake pads cost?
Brake work starts from £54 plus parts. The parts cost depends on your vehicle and whether you need pads only or pads and discs. We will inspect first and give you an itemised quote before doing anything.
How long do brake pads last?
Typically somewhere between 25,000 and 60,000 miles, but it varies enormously with driving style and where you drive. Lots of stop-start town driving wears pads far faster than motorway miles.
What is the legal tyre tread depth in the UK?
1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around its entire circumference. Below that is an MOT failure and can mean a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre. Many experts advise replacing at 3mm for better wet grip.
How often should I have my wheels aligned?
Whenever you fit new tyres, after any suspension work, or if you notice uneven tyre wear, an off-centre steering wheel or the car pulling to one side. A solid pothole impact is reason enough to get it checked.
Can you supply and fit any tyre size?
We stock budget, mid-range and premium ranges and can source most sizes. Give us a ring with the size from your tyre sidewall and we will quote you — we are usually well under main dealer prices.
