What gets checked during an MOT

The MOT is a safety and emissions test, not a mechanical health check. A tester will go through:

• Lights and signalling — headlamps, indicators, brake lights, aim and condition
• Steering and suspension — wear, play, damage and corrosion

• Exhaust and emissions — noise, leaks and emissions within limits
• Windscreen, wipers and washers — damage, view of the road, operation

What happens if my car fails?

If your vehicle fails, we will explain exactly what failed and why, in plain English, and give you an itemised quote before any work starts. We carry out the necessary remedial work quickly and efficiently to get you back on the road.

We will also talk you through any advisories — items that passed this year but are wearing and likely to need attention before the next test. That gives you time to plan and budget rather than being caught out twelve months later.

Time your MOT so you do not lose days

You can have your car tested up to one month minus a day before the current certificate runs out and keep the same renewal date. Book earlier than that and you lose the remaining days on your existing certificate.
